"36"

Today I turn 36 years old!  I can't believe that I am officially closer to 40 than 30!  Ugh....where has the time gone?

It's supposed to be a gorgeous day here in West Michigan (and a gorgeous weekend too)!

It's been years since my birthday has fallen on a weekend and I think it changes everything.  I normally don't celebrate on my birthday because after a long day at work, I usually just want to go home and cuddle with the dogs and my hubby!  But today is different.....I want to celebrate ME!  I want to grab some girlfriends and have a cold drink.  I want to eat a fancy dinner and not stress over how much it costs.  I want to relax in the sunshine and let the rays rest gently on my face.

It's my birthday yo!  And I'm going to celebrate!

Canine Good Citizen

When Lainey, our pit bull, was just 6 months old we enrolled her (and I) in Puppy Foundation classes.  After successfully passing, we quickly enrolled in a Social Manners class.  We are currently in Advanced Obedience classes where we will graduate next week.

That is 18 weeks of training classes that my Lainey Bug and I have endured together.  She has come so far from that first night of class.  Those hours spent training, at home and the training facility, have definitely formed a special bond between my girl and I.

As I stated, next week is our last night of Advanced Obedience.  On this night we will be taking the AKC Canine Good Citizen test.   The goal is to stress responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs.  The program is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community.

I'm feeling fairly confident that if Lainey has a good night we will pass with flying colors.  On the other hand, she has a tendancy to be moody sometimes which results in a very uncooperative dog.

Wish us luck!!

A Mothers Love

If you are a follower of this blog, you must know what an animal lover I am.  We've got 4 pets and I'm itching for another dog.  I just haven't been able to convince my hubby to feel the same way!

Lainey is our 10 month old pit bull.  She is one of the loves of my life and we've become quite the pair! I have such a special relationship with her that I don't have with any of my other pets.

Tucker and Walker are my cats and they were with me through some crucial times in my life.  In a weird sort of way, they are my best buds and I will always love them more than any person should love an animal.

Sorry for the "crazy" eyes...flash on the camera!

Stewie is our jack russell.  He was my husbands dog, who found a special place in my heart.  He is full of energy and fits right into our crazy family dynamics.

With Mother's Day just recently behind us, I've been doing a lot of thinking.  Does being a mom to a human really feel that much different than being a mother to our pets?  I know that having kids is not in my life plan, but does that mean that I will never feel that "unconditional love" that every mother speaks of?

I love this quote from Ashley over at Lucky Dog Rescue Blog:

“Loving, nurturing, raising, protecting, defending, teaching, guiding, caring, and providing for a “child”… every single day… no matter what…
That’s what makes you a mother.

Loving them so much… that you’re willing to place their needs well-above your own…
That’s what makes you a mother.

Loving them so unconditionally… that there’s simply nothing they could ever do to sway your devotion from them…
That’s what makes you a mother.

Doing all of these things… to the very best of your ability… every moment you’re alive…
That’s what makes you a mom.

I don’t care what anyone says…
Trust me…
I’m a mom.

Ask any of my pets…
They’ll tell you…
I’m a mom.”

What's Your Sleep Number?

I really want to jump right into the point of this post, but I thought maybe a little back story was necessary, so here goes.....

A few months back we had a new PT do a home visit for my husband.  While he was there, he started asking questions about our Tempurpedic bed and suggested that we should try a Sleep by Number bed.  As a result of my husband being a paraplegic, he sometimes gets legs spasms while he sleeps and this therapist thought a different type of bed would be the answer to this problem.

He recommended a few different models and told us to visit a Sleep by Number store.

After the store visit, we found out that insurance had approved us for the "high-end" model and we were quite excited.  It has adjustable head and foot positions, massagers for your head and feet and of course the adjustable comfort level that these beds are famous for.

Long story short....I took the day off work yesterday to be there when the new bed was delivered and I was pretty excited.  I couldn't wait to try out the new massagers, watch a little TV while in the upright position, and of course...find my sleep number!

After a long, restless and sleepless night I would like to report that we HATE the bed!  Yes, hate is a strong word, but if I could light it with a match and set it on fire....I WOULD!!!

Yes, the adjustable head/foot option is nice, but the massagers send my husband into severe spasms and the worst part is almost being bounced out of bed by my husband every time he changes position.

I don't think this bed is going to work out for us.  I guess we never realized how good we had it with our Tempurpedic.  Most of all, the lack of motion transfer between partners makes the Tempurpedic the winner a hundred times over again.

Thank goodness for the 30 day trial....This bed is being returned.

Now we just need to figure out how to get our old bed back into our room so we can actually get some sleep tonight.

**This is not an advertisement for Tempurpedic, nor was I asked to write this.  This is my own personal opinion.

You Make Me Sick

Chris Brown...You make me sick!! Pit bulls are the most over-bred and most abused animals! As if there are not enough of them dying in shelters every day, but you go and start a puppy mill. I am so disgusted and hope others will be too!!!!
